I was going to write something thoughtful…perhaps even something upbeat. But I’m tired and have only a short period of time left in front of my computer before I have to haul my a$$ home and get ready to drive up to my parents’ house- where I’m spending the weekend and having my family/Salem baby shower. I’m excited to see my family and relax a little. I’m also excited to see my grandpa and just be somewhere else for a while. But the preparation to get ready to go anywhere is exhausting. That’s what happens when you’re hauling extra weight around in the dead of summer.
BTW: I have a general rule to not complain about heat/summer/humidity in Ohio or anywhere for that matter. Every time I get hot I have to remind myself that it’s better than snow. And no matter HOW HOT I get, if it started snowing in the middle of July I would cry my eyes out because I hate snow and being cold with all of my being. So I’ve been trying to be good about the heat. But I think this baby might be a space heater or something because I feel even hotter than normal. It’s insane. I’m trying not to complain about it- but I have remarked, “Whoa I’m hot” several times in the past week or so. It’s amazing. Not complaining, just observing.
I keep getting this question now- from strangers:
“When is your baby due?”
And it’s a valid question, my stomach is large and I probably seem short and terse when talking to people, and my face is always red due to the heat. They probably ask to either lighten the mood during a patron interaction or just out of curiosity. When I say either “August,” “Mid-August,” or “August 16th” I receive the following responses:
“Whoa- it’s going to be a hot summer.” or “Not much longer to go!”
So immediately I feel I can judge these people based on their response: glass half-full or half-empty. It’s a fun game. Because honestly, on any given day, hour, hell even minute- my response could go either way too. It just depends on my ever-changing mood.
And I’ll close this with a pregnancy survey I found on someone else’s blog.
Birth Place: Columbus, OH
Father’s Name: G
Birth Place: Doylestown, OH
Why doesn’t it ask for G’s “pre-weight”?!?????! No fair.
Are you still together? So far, so good.
How did you find out you were pregnant? I was a little suspicious I hadn’t gotten my period around Dec. 12th, when I should have. By “a little” I mean, very little- not really worried at all, and didn’t even tell G or anyone that I was going to take a test because I didn’t think I was pregnant really.
What kind of Pregnancy test did you take? Whatever one I had under the sink (always have one just in case I needed peace of mind.)
How many? 1 at home and then went out and bought 3 more- took two of them and saved the third (still under the sink).
What were your 1st symptoms? Insomnia and nausea.
Who did you tell first? G, then Dee.
Who was with you when you found out? No one. (Unless you count my dwindling pack of Marlboro light cigarettes as “friends” like I did.)
My 1st reaction: How in the world am I going to tell G about this?!
Was your baby planned? Nope (hence name of this blog)
When was the baby conceived? November 12th-ish (somewhere around our anniversary)
How far were you when you found out? 5 weeks according to ultrasound
How did your parents react? Incredibly supportive and happy, which was shocking to me..
Due Date: August 16th 2009
Do you want to know the sex? obviously
Do you know the sex? Yes.
If so, boy or girl? Boy (thank goodness)
Any names? If you know us well, you already know it. If not, I’m not putting it here to avoid negative comments
Any Ultrasounds? I’ve had more u/s than anyone I know. 5 weeks, 6 weeks, 8 weeks, 10 weeks, 12 weeks, 20 weeks, 30 weeks. Yup.
Have you heard the heart beat? Heard it the first time at the 6 week appointment, and every time since.
Who do you think it will look like? I think he’ll probably look like G, which is fine with me.
Will the baby have siblings? Good grief, get me through this one first please!
Have you felt the baby move? Currently nuzzling his butt up against my ribs
Did you have morning sickness? I never threw up but felt like I was going to for nearly 4 months
Did you have any cravings? See previous cravings post..
Did you have any mood swings? Yes, and I would almost rather have constant nausea than these hormonal girly emotional outbursts
Are you a high risk pregnancy? nope
Any complications? So far no (knock on wood)
Formula or Breastfeeding? Breastfeeding- it is mostly free, and will likely be the only free lunch he ever gets
Have you bought anything for the baby yet? Yes, but not a lot. Still waiting to get the first “outfit” to wear home from the hospital. I still have a hard time with this because—how do you buy clothing for someone you don’t know yet?
When did you start to show? I think around 17-18 weeks? Maybe more like 20.
How long could you wear your regular clothes? Well I got lucky and my mom and sister let me borrow some of their clothes for a while, so I didn’t have to start wearing maternity stuff only until 6-7 months.
Will you keep the baby’s clothes? I’ll probably keep a few things that are sentimental, but we don’t have room to be hoarding stuff…
Home or Hospital? Hospital.
Natural or Medicated birth? I’ve always been a fan of drugs.
Who will be in the delivery room with you? G. I couldn’t pick between mom and dad for the “other person” so I’m just going to say G unless I change my mind.
Do you think you will need a C-section? No, but I’m not an obstetrician, either.
Will you cry when you hold the baby for the 1st time? I will cry when they sew my t’aint back up.
What’s the 1st thing you might say to the baby? Happy birthday probably.
Will you let anyone video tape the birth? Helltotheno, gross.
Are you excited? Yes.
Who will help you with the baby after the birth? G mostly– I imagine I’ll get other help too, probably from my mom and others
What is your favorite thing about being pregnant? Um. Hm. “favorite?” I can honestly say that I don’t have one. *EDIT– Feeling the baby kick is pretty cool, and feeling him react to different noises and G’s voice is pretty neat too.*
What is the worst thing about being pregnant? Getting fat, ugly spider veins on my chest and face, feeling out of control of my body, feeling out of control around food, Feeling like I’ve lost a lot of my friends and identity. Okay this is getting depressing I quit.
What’s one thing you miss doing since being pregnant? Honestly–smoking cigarettes. But I don’t think I want to start again really. I also miss feeling pretty/attractive. I miss doing the things I used to do.
Any days you wish you were not pregnant? There are days when I wish I could step outside of the pregnant body and do something else for a while, and then maybe step back into it and finish later- which I think means I’d be an ideal person to hire a surrogate if I ever did this again.
Are you ready for a baby? I don’t think anyone can say they’re “ready” but I’m as ready as I’ll ever be.
Do you have insurance? Yes.
How many kids do you want? At least one. Other than that I’m not sure.
Do you talk to the baby? Yup.
Do you still feel attractive? See above. That feeling disappeared in week 6.
Have you had your baby shower yet? I had a mini one with friends and my family one at home is this weekend.
Do you like kids? Some of them.
How far along are you now? 32 weeks 5 days
