I probably don’t have to tell you that I was nervous about this shower- mostly because the bulk of people attending hadn’t seen me in a long long time, AND I’ve never really had a shower thrown for me before so I didn’ tknow what the expectations were. I didn’t know what was supposed to be “fun” about a shower. I knew ahead of time that my sister-in-law and the others who planned the event would make it lovely- I just didn’t know if I would be a “lovely” guest of honor feeling the way I do these days….
BUT- Oh it WAS lovely- if you don’t mind my gushing Pollyanna style over the way everything was done. There were tables sitting outside with white, yellow and green table cloths and chair covers and tiny little daisies in mason jars covered the top of each table. Driving up and catching a glimpse of them all sitting outside I got choked up thinking, “For me?! Really something this pretty and fancy for ME?!” And then people just started coming- nearly 30 people streaming in with gifts and I kept thinking- “I can’t believe people are here and so generous…” It was so nice to see people I hadn’t seen in years- though I certainly didn’t have enough time to talk to everyone. It was a bit overwhelming.
After adorable croissant sandwiches, asian coleslaw salad and fruit skewers (ALL FOOD I CAN EAT AND LOVE) we all went into the sunporch because the rain started to come down. And the ladies all helped themselves to wine or mimosas or coffee while I opened the INSANE pile of gifts. A lot of ooohhing and aaaahhhing over adorable things and I had to mention that I love all of the functional baby supplies. I get excited about things with gadgets or extra pockets, etc. Then I see a onesie in size Newborn and imagine- my baby is going to be inside of that thing…and then I could just cry…these hormones are awesome aren’t they?
I saw so many family members and friends that I hadn’t seen in a long long time, and it was so nice to finally see them all and catch up – even if only briefly. Then after packing up the truck and Brett’s Jeep we started back to Cbus- and it was an eventful trip. G’s truck could only hold so much (we were also bringing home a grill and a loveseat) so we had things packed into the cab of the truck as well. After a grouchy start, and about 3 hours of G’s hip hop cds (the first two hours I could handle-and almost enjoyed- but the last hour was about all. i. could. take.) we arrived home safe and sound. We brought everything in to the living room and eventually crashed. That was Sunday. It is now thursday and I’ve slept 10 hours two nights in a row and I think that I might be actually caught up on the exhaustion I drummed up from the eventful weekend.
I also got to see G’s family who was in town from SC to visit. It was his littlest nephew’s first birthday so he went to the party on Saturday night. I love these kids- and they are excited to have a new baby cousin. It was so sweet to see the two little girls (Maddy and Celeste) touch my belly. It was especially sweet to see Celeste whisper to him before she left “Bye baby”.
So we both have Friday, Saturday and Sunday off this weekend which is just AMAZING> G even has Monday off. So that means I just have to get through this long (1-9) day and then I’m OFF for three whole days. I plan to work on Thank You cards, laundry, cleaning, prepping baby room (though there’s really not much more to do) and then we’re thinking about heading down to hang with Brett and Kristen in Yellow Springs on Saturday or something. Just a change of scenery perhaps.
