Today was the annual Santa visit at the Grandview Library and as usual, it was awesome. Santa arrives on a fire truck in front of the building and we, his adoring fans, follow him into the library and line up. Each year the library does this and it is just awesome. They have it down to a science. They offer numbers to people (like a deli counter) and then call groups of numbers (like airport seating). This is the second year we got in the first group of numbers and the whole visit took less than an hour. While waiting in line there are crayons and coloring pages at tables kids can color, and letters they can fill out to Santa, too. This was the first year that Simon was very very interested in the whole thing. He wrote a letter and then marched right up to Santa and told him what he wanted (a red car with doors that open and close). When I crouched down to tell him “Go ahead” when it was his turn, and there wasn’t even a moment of hesitation- I stood there watching him and got all teary eyed. I mean, what happened to that baby/toddler I just had? This was his first solo picture with Santa because he didn’t need me there and…I’m such a sucker. I’m so proud of my big boy.
